E-E-A-T is a term every SEO should know. It is not an algorithm. It is a set of qualities Google uses to judge whether content is good and trustworthy. As a digital marketing expert in Palakkad, I see many businesses confused about it, so this guide covers what it means and what you can do about it.

What Is E-E-A-T?

E-E-A-T stands for:

It comes from Google’s Search Quality Rater Guidelines, which human reviewers use to check the quality of search results. Google first used E-A-T, then added the extra “E” for Experience in December 2022.

E-E-A-T is not a direct ranking factor and it has no score. Google’s ranking systems look for signals that match these qualities, so building them helps your site over time. You can read Google’s own explanation in its guide to creating helpful, reliable, people-first content.

The Four Parts

1. Experience

Does the writer have first-hand experience with the topic? A person who has used a product, run a campaign, or visited a place can share details that someone who only researched it cannot.

How to show it: Use your own photos, screenshots, results, and lessons learned. Write in the first person where it fits, such as “When I tested this tool, I found…”.

2. Expertise

Does the writer know the subject well? For topics like health, law, and finance, formal qualifications matter a lot. For topics like marketing or cooking, practical skill counts too.

How to show it: Explain things accurately and in depth. Go beyond basic tips and explain why something works.

3. Authoritativeness

Are you or your website recognized as a reliable source? Other people have to confirm this, since you cannot simply claim it.

How to show it: Earn backlinks from respected sites, get mentioned in articles, contribute guest posts, and build a good name in your industry.

4. Trustworthiness

Can readers rely on your site? Google says trust is the most important part of E-E-A-T, and the other three support it.

How to show it: Keep your information accurate, show who runs the site, use HTTPS, and make your contact details easy to find.

Why E-E-A-T Matters

Google wants to show helpful and reliable results. This matters most for “Your Money or Your Life” topics, such as health, finance, legal, and safety, where wrong information can harm people. Content on these topics is held to a higher standard.

Even for other topics, E-E-A-T helps your content stand out from copied and low-effort pages.

How to Improve E-E-A-T on Your Website

Add author names and bios

Every post should show who wrote it. Include a short bio with the author’s background, a photo, and links to their profiles, such as LinkedIn.

Create a clear About page

Explain who you are, what you do, how long you have been doing it, and why people should trust you. Keep it specific.

Share original content

Add case studies, real examples, original images, and your own data. This is hard for others to copy.

Cite reliable sources

Link to trusted sources for any statistic or claim. This shows you checked your facts.

Update old content

Review old posts regularly. Fix outdated information and add a “last updated” date.

Make the site secure and transparent

Use HTTPS. Add a privacy policy, contact page, and clear terms. If you sell something, show pricing, refund, and delivery details.

Build backlinks and mentions

Publish useful guides, share original research, write guest posts, and take part in industry discussions.

Show real reviews

Ask happy customers for honest reviews and show them on your site or Google Business Profile. Never use fake reviews.
